Mason and Hamlin

In the world of premium pianos, no market has exploded in recent years as much as rebuilt or restored vintage American pianos, such as Knabe, Mason & Hamlin, and Steinway. Out of the half-dozen or so brands worth rebuilding, Mason & Hamlin pianos stand out. These hand made pianos are unique and loved by technicians, because they are simply unmatched in quality, rigidity, and tone. At the height of the American piano industry a hundred years ago from today, Mason & Hamlin pianos were endorsed by legendary pianists, such as Harold Bauer, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Maurice Ravel.

What makes these pianos great? German piano technician, Richard Gertz, designed all Mason & Hamlin pianos from 1895 onward to the second world war. His contributions include the solid American hardwood cabinet, one continuous rim made out of maple wood, and the iron tension resonator system that supports the crown of the soundboard. Mason & Hamlin pianos have incredible power, without ever being harsh. The tone can be described best as enveloping rather than projecting, and rich with harmonics and dark shades.

We always carry multiple Mason & Hamlin pianos that are FULLY restored. What is the difference buying a Mason from us vs. the other guys?

Full Restoration: Each and every Mason on our floor is painstakingly restored to like new condition. This includes replacing the strings, bringing the action to like new condition, and replacing the keytops, replacing all felts, bushings, and hammer. Finally, the cabinet is fully restored to look as it did 100 years ago. This is different than what many others do, such as slap on new hammers and fill in scratches with a crayon. We take great pride in our selection of the finest American pianos ever produced.

Come and try out an incredible piece of living history.
